I make visual depictions of humanoid characters to question representation. This inquiry into overrepresentation is to create an understanding between the boundaries and limitations of identity. Using ink with Hanji, oil painting, and installation; I build a space for the perpetual other, not to fit in, but to understand the violence in fitting in. I hope one day, these characters create their own autonomy to inspire that there is not one identity, but a chance at life with many perspectives.
Our understanding of humanity heavily relies on existing narratives;
but there is no singular identity. So... where do your normative routines come from?
